Form is temporary. Class is Permanent. Mesut Ozil proved that today with one of his best performances for Arsenal in a very long time. Ozil not only brought the Gunners back to level term against Leicester City with a trademark placed finish, a goal that made him the highest scoring German in Premier League history, the now retired German international set up striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for his first of the game.
However, it was the 3rd goal that showed Ozil’s class and intelligence on and off the ball. Not only did the Arsenal captain start the move with a no-look flick in the middle of the field, but he then made a well-timed run before playing a perfect dummy and finally ended his move by laying the ball to the path of Aubameyang, who in all fairness could’ve scored with his eyes closed. It was a vintage Arsenal goal, not under Arsene Wenger but Unai Emery.
Arsenal has now won 10 straight matches for the first time since 2007: 7 of those coming in the Premier League since their last loss to Chelsea earlier in the season. When Ozil is on his game, there aren’t many better playmakers in World football.
